Keeping your blog up-to-date with relevant content can be very
demanding, especially if you don't have the time to do your research.
Almost all small businesses as well as huge corporations invest in
keeping an active blog as a form of marketing strategy. And with online
advertisements booming the way it is, business blogs have become an
integral part of your business success.
However, keeping a good quality business blog requires strategic thinking, reader engagement skills and of course relevance. It doesn't matter whether you run a plumbing business, a B2B office supplies business or just an online jewelry store, as long as you are selling a product or service, a business blog can be very instrumental in yielding more business.
Here are some strategies that can help you in keeping your blog updated, relevant and engaging:
1. Research
Spend some time doing research about what people are interested in and what the trending topics at the moment are. You can look for some current events that may be going on or news about new laws or advancements in your particular industry.
But don't simply stick to your field of business as it can get very monotonous and boring. Try to engage your audience with other events or information and try to link it back to how your business can be of help or relevance.
For instance, if you run a furniture store, then the latest trends in interior designs or even trending wallpapers can be used as a way of marketing your business in an effective and interesting way.
2. Schedule
Be sure to keep and follow a schedule for your blog. It's a bad idea to wait for something newsworthy to write a blog or to write infrequently or too often as well. You will need to find the right balance between not boring your audience with too many irrelevant updates and making them forget you even exist.
It has been said that you should at least write and post your blog articles twice a week. Tuesday and Thursday have been said to be the greatest days to release them but you must test for yourself.
You can write a few posts at once but publish them throughout the week. Set goals where you sit down on maybe a Saturday or Sunday and write 3 to 5 posts for the week. Then schedule them to go out 2-4 times a week. This will keep you consistent with your readers so they won't forget about you.
3. Audio/ Video
Don't simply include text and pictures. According to a research, visitors only read 28% of the text on average. So you may have a great point of view, and something newsworthy to tell but you will need to do more to attract and keep the visitor to go through the whole blog.
So use video clips to emphasize on your point of view. And even if you would like to cover a topic that has previously been covered, make sure that you relate it to something that is happening currently or it will lose its essence.
4. Learn How To Write Killer Headlines
It is very important to capture your readers attention from the beginning! If they are not interested in the topic then they will never read the great content you have prepared for them. Most people read the newspaper and book articles by skimming through the topics and headlines.
Take the time to go to Amazon.com and take a look at books that are in your chosen industry or niche. Look at the customer reviews and see what the title of their review is named. You can use this as your blog title to stir up curiosity in your reader. You can look for the names of several of the hottest selling books in your niche and mix then together to create a great one-liner.
Maintaining a blog that is relevant and fresh requires research and time management, blogging is serious business and can reap serious results, as long as you invest your time and energy into it.
